Stephen C. Kaufman, MD, PhD

Dr. Stephen C. Kaufman is a world-renowned ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist at New Eyes Las Vegas. A Heed Ophthalmology Fellow, he improves patients’ lives every day through laser vision correction (LASIK and PRK), pterygium surgery, and the treatment of ocular surface cancer. His corneal expertise spans full-thickness and partial-thickness transplantation (PKP, DSAEK, and DMEK), corneal crosslinking for keratoconus, and the management of dry eye and corneal infections.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. Kaufman is a respected educator and researcher. He is a noteworthy photorefractive laser instructor who is regularly invited to lecture and present research at national and international ophthalmology meetings. With more than 400 publications and presentations — including 11 book chapters on cornea and refractive surgery — he has also edited two cornea textbooks and serves on the editorial boards of three ophthalmic journals.

Dr. Kaufman is a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Medicine. He previously served as Vice Chairman of Ophthalmology and Co-Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery at the University of Minnesota, as well as Medical Director of Eye Care Services for the M Health Fairview system.

Dr. Kaufman serves on the board of directors of the Eye Bank Association of America, chairs the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Cornea Knowledge Base Committee, and is Co-Chairman of the Midwest Cornea Association. He formerly served on the boards of the Cornea Society and the Minnesota Academy of Ophthalmology.
